I am offering psychosexual and relationship counselling to individuals and couples.
I started my practice as a counsellor 6 years ago in HMP Brixton, followed by work in GP surgery, a private health clinic, and currently at Kings College Hospital.

I am a trained counsellor who has undertaken additional training in the physical and psychological issues associated with sexual functioning.

Some sexual problems are purely physical and could result from disability, illness, difficult birth-giving, or a side effect of medication. It may be that you will be given advice on seeking further tests to establish physical and medical aspects.

Some problems are purely psychological, originating in negative childhood messages or sexual trauma. Evidence is that the majority of problems have a combination of physical and psychological elements. Some difficulties can stem from communication and interpersonal breakdown.

Unravelling the situation is the job of therapy, tackling any problem that isn’t sorting itself out, and is making life less than wonderful. It might be a long-term problem, or something that has emerged recently.

My approach is to work with all aspects of a person’s life in terms of background, family group, culture, and environment. The aim is to enable clients to work at a purposeful but manageable pace, in order to regain balance in their lives, within a safe, supportive, and confidential therapeutic relationship.

What is psychosexual and relationship therapy?

It offers help for people with sexual and relationship problems, drawing on a long tradition of work starting with Masters and Johnson in America, and evolving Trans-Atlantically into a user-friendly mixture of therapeutic work in sessions and tasks that clients do at home. The tasks can be around renewing balance in sexual relationships and/or communication and interpersonal skills.

I work to the Code of Ethics set by the two professional bodies of which I am a member – the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, (BACP: www.bacp.co.uk)
and British Association of Sex and Relationship Therapists (BASRT: www.basrt.org.uk/)
